Job Profile Summary

Under general supervision, you will perform neurodiagnostic procedures in the laboratory, at the bedside, in critical care units, and in the surgicalsuite. Our EEG Techs perform complex neurodiagnostic procedures to evoke, record and study electrical physiology brain activities for use in diagnosing neurological disorders.

Major Responsibilities

  • Perform and maintain competency in electroencephalograms, portable inpatient EEG's, ambulatory EEG monitoring, EEG
    • Monitor during intracarotid Sodium Amytal procedures (WADAS), Epilepsy Monitoring Units (EMUs) and Evoke Potentials by applying suitable electrodes on predetermined positions on the patient's head, checking the performance of the electrodes,
      • Calibrate and adjust the test apparatus and select both predetermined and special electrode combinations dependent on the individual case under study.
        • Prepare patients for exam and perform exams and procedures. Gather a comprehensive patient history, appropriate information from your patient as well as the patient's records and family members to include neurological symptomatology and medications.
          • Explain test procedures to patient and family members.
            • Perform procedures according to the laboratory standards and implement alternative methods and/or adjusts controls to obtain optimal recordings. This may include appropriate control setting changes on the equipment, use of extra electrodes, extra montages and use of activation procedures.
              • Recognize patient or environmental artifact. Document, eliminate or takes proper measures to monitor the artifact.
                • Devise and standardize neurodiagnostic tests for clinic use.
                  • Perform Intraoperative Monitoring with supervision.
                    • Assist physicians in outpatient department clinics with Nerve Conduction Studies and EMGs as needed.
                      • Perform Cerebral Death Evaluation studies.
                        • Perform TCD (transcranial ultra sound of the Circle of Willis).
                          • Troubleshoot equipment problems and repair or report to supervisor immediately.
                            • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Be familar with growth and development principles over the life span of your patient, and be able to factor this information into data collection requirements and optimizations

                              Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required
                              • Electroencephalographic Technologist registration (R EEG T) issued by the American Board of Registration of
                                • Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) needs to be obtained within 1 year, and
                                  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required. Education Required
                                    • High School Graduate
                                    • Graduation from a neurodiagnostic educaiton program preferred Experience Required
                                      • Typically requires 2 years of experience in a Neurodiagnostic Tech role. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
                                        • Excellent interpersonal and patient service skills.
                                          • Intermediate computer skills. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
                                            • Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
                                            • Position requires travel. May be exposed to road and weather hazards.
                                            • Must sit, stand, walk, twist, and lift throughout the workday.
                                            • Must be able to:
                                              • lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
                                              • lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.
                                              • carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
                                              • Must be able to:
                                                • push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
                                                • perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
                                                • Work environment may contain potential for exposure to blood and body fluids or other unpleasant fumes or hazards and,
                                                • therefore, must have ability to work in that type of environment and wear protective clothing as necessary.
